Unrestrained growth

December 20, 2010

There is no merit in constant growth. There is actual harm. A town, a university, like any other organism, has an optimal size. If you insist on pushing past that, you create its own destruction. So why do administrators, political or academic, keep pushing for expansion? The only thing I can conclude is ego and power. They want to control more: more people, more money, more space. And apparently they don’t care what is lost in their blind, egotistic greed.
